"Spreading the Cheer"
If you’ve been following me you already know how much value I put into my staff. How I raise them up and how I show appreciation for them. I spread the cheer wherever I go because what we do in hospitality is tough and I have a great appreciation for everyone’s contributions at any level… especially when they are good. This guy was the best.
Meet Oscar - Oscar was a steward for me at Blue Point Grille and I’ve been telling this story about him for 18 years. I had a friend that had a great big old Cadillac that hadn’t run in 10 years. It was a convertible and sat in his driveway. I said to my friend “we need to get that on the beltway”. He said naaaa it’s never going to run.
I’m an optimist and I focus on results NOT efforts. So I said I have a guy. Oscar comes over, pops the hood and climbs into the engine compartment. Fiddles around for a few minutes and says “Parts”. I take him to the auto store he’s got what he needs in a few minutes and they ring us up. $92.50
We get back to the Caddy and Oscar climbs back in. He’s in there for maybe 40 minutes and climbs out. “Fire it Up !!’ he shouts. Varrrroooooom !! It fires right up !!
I’ve been telling this story for over 18 years and guess who I run into today at a Mechanics Shop?
What a great time catching up with Oscar and sorry I had to show all your buddies your pic in 2001.
Another great day in the Life of an Optimist !!
Have a wonderful evening and I appreciate all of you,
Chef Keller
